Horse Sense...

One day I was going to the market and stopped at Kawailoa to take a few pictures.
While there, a trade shower started to come through.

I watched as it started to rain heavier.  I noticed one of the horses moving towards the HUGE
ficus tree that sits in the middle of the pasture.
The tree is so HUGE and thick that it doesn't get wet under it.
As long as I sat there, this guy was the only one that had enough
sense to get out of the rain.

FUN RUN 2012...

Today was the 2nd Annual FUN RUN at Waialua Elementary.
No rain, plenty of sun and not too hot,
It was a really fun day.

A-10 getting ready to run.

The school has a group of Army "partners" who spent the morning there running with the kids,
having fun with the kids and just being all around great.

I loved this...one of the Army guys, carrying a little pre-schooler part of the way

Parents running with their kids,

Mr. Y giving out "high 5's" as he ran by...

Miss Yolanda having fun

Sweet Kalei
With the $$$ earned from the first FUN RUN, the outdoor stage was built,
This year the $$ is earmarked for new lanai furniture/shade, and some other outdoor
improvements.  It's great that the kids can see things around the school that they helped build.

Tita's Grill

Finally stopped by Tita's Grill (http://www.titasgrill.com/ )across from Kahuku High School.
Heard about this place for a long time and it was worth the wait.
We'll have to go back because the coco rice was sold out and so was the bread.
They even gave a free dessert because they were so busy.

try go early and get some bread to take home.
Tita's Grill, worth it!

Baa Baa No Black Sheep

Up by Kawela Bay we always see sheep in a field right off Kam Hiway.
Today I stopped because I had my good camera and good light.  I spent about 1/2 up there
just taking pictures.
All this time I thought that the sheep were the reason to stop, but I
found out there's so much more there.

Kawela Bay, another hidden treasure.

Kuhio Day...

Today is a state holiday...Prince Jonah Kuhio day.  I wrote about it last year here.
Today I had to go over to Laie and there was a lot of traffic because of the holiday.
I was able to snap this photo of Waimea because of this...

people unloading their car of beach stuff, right there on Kam Hiway!
I've never seen that before, this stopped the traffic all the way to 3 Tables.

just a little bit of information...Hawaii is the only state that celebrates
holidays honoring royalty, Kuhio Day and Kamehameaha Day.

Happy Birthday Trav and Marisa...

Our dear friends, Travis and Marisa had a little beach BBQ
to celebrate their birthdays this week.
It was so much fun...re-connecting with people I hadn't seen for
a long time (Tom, Red & Painter Mike).  There was a long walk
down memory lane with stories of Kaamooloa Estates famous parties.
I met a brother of a San Clemente guy.
Lots of really ono-licious food.

Happy, Happy Birthday you two!!!!!

Big MAHALO for a great BBQ on your beach!

Waialua HS Robotics...

bannerall

I'd never heard of robotics until we moved here and started reading
about it in the newspaper.
Then our neighbor boy, Jacob, joined the robotics team at
Waialua High School.  Jacob explained it more
to hubby and I and it sounded really
interesting and Jacob's explanation helped make it clear exactly
what robotics is all about.

Recently, the teacher in charge of the program at the high school
received a Milken Family Educator Award.  This
is such a huge honor and well deserved.

This weekend is a huge three day competition that
the team is taking part in.

take a minute to read here all about the Waialua High
and Intermediate School Robotics Team.
This is a great team from a very small, country school
that is doing HUGE things.
Mahalo again to Jacob for helping us understand the world of robotics!
