Waikiki Dancing~ Flashback Friday...

the other day when I was looking for photos of Noah,
I came across these.
Not sure when this was, but it's after they re-did the
beach desk.
I know it was after 4 in the afternoon because
that's what time they start the music.  I'm not even sure who took this
photo.

This was just an impromptu moment
between Tommy and I.  I would guess this is a Sunday
with Harry Kapono and we were just getting into the music.

Even from this blurry photo, I can see Tommy laughing.
That I do remember...how funny we both thought it was...
Good times in Waikiki
Memories.

One More Aloha...

recently there was another Beach Boy funeral, Chief.
Sad as time goes by, the only time that so many of them are
together again is for funerals.

Oh, those glory days of Waikiki...
the pau hana parties on Friday nights on the beach,
the uncles watching all the kids and as the girls
got older watching out for them,
cement umbrella weights,
the food, reading the paper very early in the morning with the boys,
little boys helping the uncles clean up the beach at 4pm,
"set-ups", the old beach stand, all the chairs and umbrellas lined
up in their certain spots, haircuts downstairs in the storeroom,
the two snack-shops under the stairs by the garage- the best
plate lunch and hot dogs, Davy Jones Locker and all the $$
that the kids put into Pac Man, canoe rides to fill the boats, sand sliding, endless waves
ridden on those heavy old boards, jumping into the pool at the
Royal and the window in the Outrigger pool... most of
all the Aloha

most of all the Aloha

Beach Boy reunion 2010

Every year on Duke's birthday (or close to it), Dukes Waikiki is host to a "BeachBoy reunion".  We were lucky enough to be in Waikiki that day.  It was fun for Traci to get to see some old friends that she hasn't seen for many, many years.  It's always fun to connect with people that sometimes I don't see very often anymore.
Since this was a Friday and there was music on the lower lanai at Dukes, the band called for the beachboys to come down and sing.  For any of you that are familar with this party (or any BB party for that matter), there is usually a lot of singing going on up at the big round table.  This time a lot of them actually came down and started singing.  I didn't realize that Uncle Billy had such a great voice! There was hula and singing of some old songs that brought back a lot of memories.

Like Willie Grace said to me "this is so special because we just don't know who won't be here next year".  That's the truth and I think that's what I found so moving.  When the canoe from Aloha Beach Services paddled out to the line up and just sat there, I was wondering if they were thinking about everyone who's out there.

Mahalo guys for another great party... good fun, good times.
