The Sleeping Giant...

has awakened.
Waimea Bay, October 9, 2012
(Vince Cavataio photos).

Yes, the roaring freight train named "BIG SURF" could be heard all night at our house.

This is so dangerous, this is what the lifeguards are trying to keep
people from doing...being swept out by the back wash. Can I just say crazy!

a couple of blurry iphone photos as we came around Waimea curve.

Welcome to Big Surf Season on the
North Shore.

Panorama Morning...

took a quick drive up the winding road this morning to try out
the new panorama feature on my iPhone .

Thanks Billy for showing me this really cool app. Can't wait to use it some more!

I wanted to get up there before the VOG came in and
clouded everything over.

Happy Birthday Benita...

One of my  dear friends and hula sister, Benita, just had a BIG birthday.
So Iris and I decided to take her to lunch.  A "girl's only" day.
So we headed down to Waikiki to Duke's.

The lunch was so yummy!
I still think that Duke's has the best breakfast and lunch buffet anywhere.
There were a couple of new salads that were so good...couscous and a tabouli (sp?)
that I could have eaten the whole tray.

It was so nice to get together.  We said that we should do it once a month, just us.
It's nice to talk over old times and all the hours we put into hula performances.
It's funny, we live on the same island, but the three of us live in three really
different areas, Ewa, Hawaii Kai and the North Shore. We still all dance hula,
but because I live so far, I go on Saturday morning due to the traffic.
It was really nice to get together.
Happy Birthday Benita!

Yuck...

No trade winds,

high clouds,

and hot temps means...

it's hot, sticky and just plain yuck!
Seems to get hotter in the afternoon which is strange, when
you think it should be getting cooler.
It even rained a little the other night.
So, the ceiling fans are going all the time and we're drinking lots of water
trying to stay cool.

Dance, Dance, Dance...

My sweet friend, Kelsey, is starting up dance classes
out here on the North Shore.
This is so exciting because there really isn't anything like this
out here for little ones.

Kelsey is the perfect instructor for this.  She
has two darling girls of her own and she has had
extensive dance training and been a member of
a national award winning dance group.

This is when I wish Miss Emme lived here, she'd love this!

Na Kama Kai...

On our flight home, I was watching the videos on "Hawaiian Skies" and came across
one on a great organization...NA KAMA KAI.

This group was started by a friend of Geoff's, Duane De Soto, to teach
the children of Hawaii about the ocean.
They hold clinics all over the island and it's open to child.
I love that they not only teach water safety but conservation and traditional
surfboard shaping also.

NA KAMA KAI is helping make
children aware of their surroundings and how they can help.
Take the time to learn more about this wonderful
group.
