Sunflowers...

when we got back home from the mainland last week, we were surprised to
see a field of sunflowers in downtown Haleiwa.
Everyday I've wanted to stop but it's either been too crowded or
the sun has been too bright or I just didn't have my camera.

This morning I got up early and drove over there before the crowds got crazy.
Every day I've gone by there, it's been full of people in the field photographing them
and even picking them.

Well today I pulled across the street to try and get a shot of the whole field
and its location to town.  There were a couple of cars and I noticed that there
was a guy putting up signs, they said "No Tresspassing"
So I drove over and took a couple more shots and that was it.  I stopped
to ask the guy if this was his new job...to keep people out.
So he started telling me that yesterday a kid fell over the cement guard rail
and almost broke his neck.  Since the property is AG land and owned by
Kamehameha, they are going to try to keep people out so that
they aren't sued (more about that later**).

As he and I were talking and he showed me all the trash that he'd picked
up a lady (not a tourist) came up and he told her that it was private property and she'd have to leave.
she said "just one photo" he told her she had 1 second to take it.  She proceeded
to walk across the barrier, grass and into the field.  He's yelling at her to stop and
she wouldn't.

I left, but could see from across the street.  He took a picture of her license plate and she
continued to yell at him.

the concrete barrier the little boy fell over and "No Tresspassing" signs
posted.

** Kam Schools is being sued because a few months ago up at Aoki's Shave Ice a lady had her purse
grabbed/stolen.  Instead of letting go of the purse, she held on and fell and broke her jaw...now suing Kam Schools because they're the property owners.  They did catch the thief and she got her purse back.
Another situation of "deep pockets".

but before the sunflowers are gone, there have been some beautiful photos taken.
A friend of ours posted this one (sorry it's not clear, that's my program)...
we've had some glorious sunsets. Those colors and the colors of the flowers
made for a beautiful picture.
Thanks Tailee!

Our beloved North Shore is changing...and not for the best.
So many people coming here to "get their piece of paradise" and
not really knowing anything about the culture, or careing to get to know
anything about it.  Trying to make this the mainland and it's not.
Trying to shut down long time family businesses because maybe they
don't look like "mainland" stores or not working on a solution to the
horrible traffic problem up at Lanis...fixing this would benefit so many
residents of the North Shore.

Where has all the Aloha gone?

Pride...

I was going through my photos of the last month and found these two
and realized I hadn't used them yet.

Grey's Kinder year ended with him
getting an award for "Fairness".
Grey has such a sweet spirit and this award is
really no surprise to me.  He seems so grown up
here and it's hard to believe that he's going into First Grade.

Jack got an award for "Perfect Attendance".  He had told
his mother that he was getting it...she didn't believe him!!!
I think Jack really likes school, so going everyday really
isn't a problem...no fake illnesses.

Good Job Boys!
We're so proud of you.

4th of July....

with a few thousand friends
We went up to Turtle Bay Resort again this year.
Both of us were surprised that there wasn't any traffic, even at Lanis or Chuns.
We had thought that there were going to be massive traffic jams because
this year the public wasn't allowed onto Scholfield Barricks for their
fireworks program.  So Turtle Bay was really "the only place in town" or North Shore to
see a show.

As always it was great...
a beautiful day

 lots of great food

lots of good music to listen to while we waited....

and finally...
a great show!

the traffic getting out wasn't even too bad and we were home in no
time.
We're so thankful that we live in such a wonderful country
and are able to celebrate our freedoms in such a good way!

Beach Birthday Party...

Lauren had her birthday party down at T-Street on
Friday evening.  It was a perfect evening.  It's been so
warm here and that will usually bring coastal fog...but not on Friday.
The air was warm and so was the water.

pizza delivered to the beach...what could be better

Happy Birthday Lauren!
