after crossing the prairie of Iowa, we stopped at a rest stop and learned a little about
the tall prairie grass of Minnesota
our first real glimpse of the "Mighty Mississippi". Minnesota is
where this great river starts. Because of the time, we didn't have
a chance to go about 4 hours north to see that.
every time we crossed I had to sing "Old Man River" and Lauren
thought I was crazy
after looking on a map, we figured out that if we went to Stillwater we were really close to
Wisconsin...so off we went.
Stillwater sits on the St. Croix river and is said to be the birthplace of Minnesota
we were too late to take a paddle boat cruise, but looked like fun
we took a trolley ride around the town and so glad that we did. we learned
so much about the history of this great town. It's listed as one of Forbes Magazines
greatest places to live.
we had some serious "house envy" going on here.
so many of these great old houses have been restored to their former beauty and
are just breathtaking.
Church Street, Stillwater, Minn. Can't get a good idea of all the
churches in this one little town
on to Wisconsin...
just a quick drive over the bridge from Stillwater into Hudson
we actually did this so that Lauren could get the 4 states (Ariz., Iowa, Minn. and Wisconsin)
all in one trip. Why Not? they're so close.
the Minnesota State Capital in St. Paul
the Cathedral of St. Paul
next...Mall of America (no shopping) and the food crawl.
