Love A Reader...

on Friday night after dinner, Grey said he wanted to spend the night with me.
I loved this.  He wanted to bring some books to read.  So after showers
and a little bit of a video, we climbed into my big bead.  I thought
I'd be reading to him.
Surprise!  He read "Green Eggs and Ham" to me.
I love the pointer finger.  I loved how he used the correct inflection
in his little voice.  Never once did he ask for help, sounding out
words that he didn't get.

Bedtime and he said he wanted his little light on.  This is how I found him
5 minutes later...

sound asleep on the book I heard him reading.

I love this reader.

Granparent's Day 2013...

I'm in an Clemente for Grandparent's Day at Jack & Lauren's
school.  I've gone to this every year and it's still the best.
Jack's class sang  a little song to the tune of

"Take me out to the ballgame"
Lauren's class did a skit based on the
game show "Family Feud".
She played a reporter...I didn't recognize her at first

#1 answer of things that grandparents say...

I went to  Jack's Second Grade class first.  He was excited to show
me how far he was in his Harry Potter book.  This is the third one he's read.

In Second grade they do an animal report (just like A-9)
He was so proud of his

 "Amazing Surfing Geckos"

his paper mache penguin

and writing samples.

Lauren was so proud of her creative writing,

how clean her desk was.

her pictures from field trips and

her oral report on Richard Nixon (also happened to be crazy hair day)

I loved the "Meet the Masters" art work.

Lauren told me that she was sad that it was going to be her
last Grandparent's Day.  Jack and I told her that we'd
come and get her at Middle School next year.  She said that she'd be
okay with that.
Our Savior's has been such a great fit for Lauren and Jack has done so well there.

Another Grandparent's Day for the record books.

Student Treasures...

it's that time of year again...getting ready to send off the
students of A-9 animal research projects.
There is so much that goes into this.  The actual research packet,
the writing, the typing (dreaded) and the illustration .

One of the parents is an artist and she volunteered to
come in and work with the kids making a paper mache
model of their animal.

I think this is stressful because there's a deadline that
looms over the whole thing.  I also leave about this same time
every year to attend Grandparent's Day at the Grands school, so
my help has an earlier  cut-off.
As of today, they are typed and the kids are busy doing the pictures.
They look great so far and I know they'll be ready to send off to the
publishers on time.
Can't wait to see the finished product.

Haleiwa Craziness...

the traffic in Haleiwa on the weekends is crazy...locals shopping, tour buses,
tourist escaping to the North Shore, a triathlon . so add something else to the mix...

this is what was going on in Haleiwa on Saturday around
noon.
People marching in protest to Monsanto and GMO's...
one account said thousands, but really was a few hundred.
still enough to make a traffic mess.

it was horrible! couldn't get out at all, I'd been at the market.
glad to find out today that instead of doing this EVERY saturday
in March in Haleiwa, they're going to go to different islands.

For the Green and the Blue...

I just got two new stars that I ordered from
They were having a sale and I couldn't resist.
"Tiny Tropical" reminds me of our ocean here on the North Shore
and "South Pacific Palette" reminded me of Mt. Kaala and
all the green in our yard.

I need to find someplace to hang these beauties...
they make me so happy.

When Life Gives You Lemons...

Last night was our Relief Society activity night, our theme
was "When Life Gives You Lemons".  Since I was in charge of
the decorations, I went with lemons, yellow and white.
We had three wonderful speakers.  They were completely
different, but so wonderful.  After the speakers we
went in to the gym and played "Lemon Facts" which was fun...

As members of the presidency, we each made a lemon treat to share.  So
we had lemon bars (of course)

a lemon shortbread that was so darn yummy

lemon cupcakes

lemon tarts
and  lemon bread

we had lemonade and lemon water to drink

even some lemon drop candy
we ended the evening with everyone making a
"lemon-sugar-coconut oil" scrub.
everyone said it was so fun and easy to make and it tasted good!
(these were the labels that I made to go on the container, never got one
made for my self)

I just love Waialua Ward!
