Paula Fuga...

the other night I met two friends from San Clemente, Erin and Todd, out
at Turtle Bay to hear Paula Fuga play.
This is part of a program at SURFER, the bar,
showcasing loca musicians.
It was a great night and I'm glad I got to spend some time with great friends!

Like Father, Like Son...

Geoff has started taking Grey (4) surfing at T Street.
The first time he had him use a beater board (big boogie board, no fins).
This time he used one of Geoff's boards and here is the result...

notice that he's goofy foot just like his dad!

same shower Geoff used to rinse off in..

proud poppa met them there and took these photos (his first time using his camera on his iPhone)

Leis of ALOHA...

I drove through Punchbowl on Monday.
35,000 graves had flags and leis.
The wind was really blowing, but it was so quiet.
It was unforgettable, so glad I went.

Lei making...

Every year the graves at Punchbowl National Cemetery are decorated with a lei.
A few days before Memorial Day leis are starting to be collected.
On Friday morning I decided to make a few lei to turn in.  I've done it before with crown flowers
and have gotten the neighborhood girls to help.  On this day there wasn't anyone
around, so I just started to pick flowers and then stringing.
I ended making 10 lei before I had to turn them into the pick up spot...

When I got to the district park, they were stringing lei with some kids that had shown up.
they had a lot of loose flowers that needed to be strung.
I stayed until we got all of the flowers strung, which ended up being 100 lei!

On Saturday after hula I went up to Punchbowl where they were still collecting lei...
when I was there they were still 6000 lei short, but sure they would get them.
I love this tradition, it really shows the aloha spirit.

A-10 Last Day...

Yesterday was the last day of school.
It was the last day for the kids as second graders, but also Mrs. Luarca's
last day of teaching after 30 years at Waialua Elementary School.

Mrs. Luarca with some parents who were also students...

the feast...

"winners" & musubi,

Mrs. Luarca and Miss Lulu,

Not sure if he's sad to be leaving A-10 or sad that the time is going so slow...

Yearbooks were passed out

and time spent looking at them

Good-bye A-10, have a fun summer!

Car Wash...

The Scouts from our ward are working towards a
trip in a few weeks to Molokai.
To earn enough money to take the whole troop,
they've been holding regular car washes.

They've got quite the system going...even "Boss" Moody out there drying

Billy directing the whole thing!
Good job guys and mahalo for the great wash!

Class of 2012...

The Waialua High School class of 2012
graduated on Saturday night...all 120 of them.
Graduation here is a HUGE deal.
I love going to graduation ceremonies here.
The crowds, air-horns, leis, photo placards
and the proud families.
We live in a very small rural community and I
think most of the community turns out for graduation.

Congratulations Waialua Class of 2012!

Storytelling...

Every year the local Lions Club sponsors a "Story Telling Contest".
In A-10 it's an assignment to try out and then the class votes.
Interesting fact: Waialua Elementary has a "real" cafeteria, stage and even a kitchen.  The beautiful
mural at the back of the stage depicts early Waialua.  It's really beautiful.

We had stories about chickens,

a story about "Mirror, Mirror",

a local rap version and a

a take on "Three Little Frogs"

Mrs. Luarca and her storytellers.

The day ended with ice pops...all is well.

Congratulations to all the Waialua Storytellers!
